I don't like to give any company 1 star but I must warn anyone that plans on purchasing this bed rail. It is very well manufactured and does look nice, however, my wife and myself have a 25 year old disabled son and he had started to get out of his (queen matress) bed at night. We have alarms, video camera that I can check him on my iPhone at anytime which is a great item sold here on Amazon called the Cam+. The first night my son went of the end of the bed (one side is against a wall and the head is against the wall). Last night he had been in bed for about an hour and I had checked on him. Seeing that he was asleep I went to bed. My wife works and I am a stay at home Dad and care for my son and my mother in law that has moved in with us. My wife usually goes to bed early but last night she had a few things to do so checked on my son prior to coming to bed. I heard her scream so I went running! If you look at the photo you will see the two arched vertical loops in the tubing of this rail. I had the rail centered on the bed which left about a foot from the end of the rail to the head and foot of the matress. My son had some how gotten his arm down in the loop opening of the rail and his head was over the bed between where the rail ended and the head of the matress. His shoulder was wedged in this loop and his arm was almost at the floor. We could not free him because his body weight plus the angle he was in would not allow us to simply pull him out of this. I am 63 years of age and I had no choice but to grab the rail, sit on the floor with both feet against the bottom bar and had to bend the rail out wards to finally free my son. His neck and shoulder were bright red and he had a look on his face of pure fear! He is non verbal so did not let out a scream for help. He was watched for over an hour and seemed to be ok, so we didn't feel the need to take him to a hospital. If my wife had not checked on him and the way that his neck was tight against the upright part of the rail, I don't know if he would be alive today! I know that things happen but I felt the need to share this due to what MAY have happened if he had been left in bed thinking he was asleep and we felt more secure now that we had rails! My son being 25 and a medium build, I would hate to think of what can happen to a smaller person with the design of this bed rail. When I saw the words Medical Home Bed I thought this was probably a company that manufactured items more for the disabled in mind. So please, If your going to purchase this rail you MUST cover the entire rail with something that will not allow for body parts to end up like in the case of my son. I am not going to cover it or alter it in anyway! I was so upset last night that once I knew my son was ok, I bent this rail up enough to put it in the recycle bin at our home and it was picked up this morning and is now gone from my home. I could have returned it since Amazon is so great with returns but there are times when you get so upset that money is not an issue! All it would have taken is for the manufacture to place two or three cross bars in the open loop that you see at the foot and head of this rail. Yes, a person may put a arm or leg through but they would not get wedged in like my son did with this type of design. Please find something that does NOT have these open loops at the ends!
